Blood: The last Vampire

Blood: The last Vampire both sucked and rocked, depending on how you look at it. It sucked because it was only roughly 45 minutes (not including the ending credits). So I guess it was impossible to cram a decent plot of “movie caliber.”

For both the characters and storyline, there was no development whatsoever – it just stated everything in the beginning, then you could pretty much get the whole thing. And whatever you didn’t get… was never explained anyway. (like how that s#!t came to be, or what happened next… stuff like that).

On the other hand, what makes it rock is the animation… IT REALLY F*CKING ROCKS! The whole anime was saturated with CGI… but the mesh was so good that everythng seemed appropriate. I’m not saying you’ll not notice where the cells end and CG start off. But it will amaze you (insead of getting on your nerves like how Vandread was).

Another plus is that the movie was “bi-lingual” in a sense. Though I think it was really considered an “english” dub. That should give fansubs a headache. Regardless of which, the voices were satisfactory (the protagonist I think was excellent).

I guess when it all boils down to it, the time was this movie’s weakness. Because of time constraints, we couldn’t possibly ask for a well developed plot. But considering all other aspects were simpy outstanding, we can see the bottleneck clearly – and probably forgive whatever shortcomings the movie had.

I’d still recommend this to the Anime lover, this is one of the first time that a movie’s production value made up for it’s lack of substance. And if all else fails, you could consider it as one of those movies you have to see for the sake of seeing it.
