[review] Berserk (series)

BerserkIt feels like I just watched the movie Seven or something like that… I’m now in a state of being utterly disturbed. This series is exceptional, The way it tells a storyline could be common in some way (It’s one of those flashback-type stories), but the story itself… breathtaking! To be specific, The series starts with Gatts (Guts, Gatz, whatever), seemingly on an ominous mission of taking on something or someone. Then after a battle, a flashback to the main story starts. Gatts is branded with a tatoo/mark on the back of his neck, which is supposed to mean something. Having the tatoo brands him as someone/something pitiful in some way and has a dramatic effect of those characters concerned who witness it. His past apparently leaves him with nightmares and Gatts is obviously on a mission of destroying whatever is that put him in the predicament he’s in. The flashback (or the series proper) tell’s the story of how he eventually got to that point, but more importantly, how a certain person changed his life. It’s best described as “that person’s” story in the eyes of Gatts =) The opening and ending themes are absolutely horrible. It reminded me of weezer and greenday put together… not that I don’t like any of them, but trust me when I say those credit songs suck. If they’re trying to establish “Berserk” in the literal sense, then they did a pretty good job, because they, in fact, sound like they’ve gone berserk =) But surprisingly, the musical/theatrical tracks within the series are excellent. I love the yodle-type dramatic song, and the battle song n the beginning. Everything else? then this sentence might encapsulate what I feel about this series: YOU MUST WATCH BERSERK!!! |
