Rurouni Kenshin

I should’ve written this review right after wathcing the damn thing since the historical details are too much for me to remember. So lemme give it a try. The Rurouni Kenshin¹ series is about a legendary assassin turned rurouni² and his travels in the new era he helped create. At the dawn of the new era, he swore never to kill again, but still wields a Sakaba³ sword, which prevents him to fatally hurt anyone.

He was an integral part of the downfall of the old government, since he was the opposing party’s hitokiri.⁴ Anyways, the series’ central theme is Kenshin Himura’s struggle with his past. Throughout the series he is faced (one way or another) with characters from the past era, who find it impossible to live in the new era and abandon their old ways.
