[review] Noir (series)

NoirFirst off, I sadly have to say that this anime, though good, was sorely overrated. Watching it normally would definitely make you like the series. But if you come from a scene where they talk about anime a lot and rave about the new releases (such as Noir in its time), you will be a bit disappointed to find out you’ve been busting your balls waiting for a server/site that serves the eps only to find out it’s one of those “normal” good animes. In fairness, it’s only because of the hype around that made it’s viewers expect more than what was actually shown. In other aspects on the other hand, it truly is an excellent anime. It’s a story of two women [Kirika and Mireille] brought together by unusual circumstances and become assassins under the collective name of “Noir.” They slowly find out that the name Noir had a much deeper meaning, and was connected to their clients, enemies, and the world in general. Their “job” then becomes a true pilgrimage to find out about “Noir,” the organization behind it, and of their twistedly connected pasts, realities, and destinies. You see the plot simply stated above is already gripping. The animation is good too depending on your taste. And the music is top-notch. All in all makes Noir truly a great piece to watch. The story really picks up at the latter episodes. Which you would think was normal, but out of 26 episodes, I’d say at 20ish is where you really start to get hooked. So it takes a great deal of patience to watch through this series. The other episodes indeed have bits and pieces which contribute to the whole story, but they weren’t enough to pump the viewers to watch the next episodes. But of course who would want to not finish a series they’ve started right? So we’d all go on watching till the end anyway. But, like I said, at the latter part, we’d all be happy. Again, think of what you will of Noir, but my take on it is this: It is very good, but don’t expect too much. And if you’re already watching it, and are about to give up, try to ride it out… it’s bound to get much better. |
