Earth Girl Arjuna

Also known as “Earth Maiden Arjuna,” a couple comparisons to combinations of different anime could be derived. It’s like Spriggan meets Studio Ghibli [works], or Argent Soma meets Captain Planet. (Hahaha, I just had to say that)

SPOILER WARNING

Now I’m not saying those “combinations” weren’t welcome ones. Honestly it’s been a while since I’ve seen good anime with “lessons” attached to it. The series is definitely actively speaking someting about the abuse of the environment.

The main character is Juna (Arjuna? funny, the Arjuna bit was never mentioned in the series wouldn’t you say?), who dies (yes, dies) and is given a second chance on the condition that she take the burden of being the “Avatar of Time” (watch it if you wanna know what the hell that is). Naturally she agrees, not knowing the full implications of her decision. She now battles “Radja” (evil spirits), by which only people with special technology (or the same ability as her) can see. These radja are supposed to bring forth the end of civilization.

Along the series, there will be more interesting surprises and realizations. And the continuous preaching of ideals through the characters of Juna and the members of the organization Seed. everytime you hear some serious ranting from the characters, you’d think they were trying to rally a union in the real world. But they fit the “lesson” appropriately, so I guess it’s all good.

Another nice nuance was the love story going on. It never got in the way of the whole plot as a whole, but still was enough to add spice to the story in a natural and organic (pardon the pun) way. It’s another aspect of the story trying to remind that we are but simple humans who also love, hurt, etc. etc.

The animation was no slouch. It had CG included which wasn’t as superbly blended as Blood, but not stupidly slapped in like Initial D (or Vandread), overall I think it was something that really didn’t matter.

The music was good. Cheers to the anime industry as they seem to be following a trend of making killer soundtracks to their anime.

I watched this anime as the guys in #animewired said it was a good series . . . and I have to wholeheartedly agree =) This is a must watch!
