Macross Plus

I swear, this has got to be one of the best technical animations – and considering when it was made, I now believe that it is the best ever.

Concerning the fact that latter Macross generations are said to suck compared to the previous ones. I dare say Macross Plus is an exception. True that the “Do you Remember Love” era is a classic, Macross Plus puts up a hell of a story coupled with even better animation. A bonus to this OVA/movie is that you don’t have whiny characters like Min-may… you still have a singer, but that’s beside the point.

OVA

The plot of the OVA is set (for most of the show) in Eden, the home planet of Isamu, Guld, and Myung; 3 childhood friends separated by conflict and united by circumstance. (cue omnipotent voiceover: “In a world, where people are separated by conflict, and reunited by circumstance…”) Isamu and Guld are both test pilots for 2 new prospect fighters and Myung is a producer of the galactic-ally famous (computer=generated)1 singer/idol Sharon Apple.

All 3 being on generally bad terms with each other, it is not surprising that conflicts will arise (or re-arise). Meanwhile Sharon Apple develops emotions and sets her/its eyes on Isamu…

If i tell more, i’d be telling the whole story so i’ll stop there.

Movie

    1. I don’t mean that CG was used for the character animation… I mean the character itself is a computer character. Think Max Headroom or something.
