[review] Spirited Away (movie)
2003.12.20 10:43 AM
Studio Ghibli and Director Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, etc.) once again grace us with an animated movie. Spirited Away… is about Chihiro, a young girl who finds herself trapped in a different world when she and her parents intrude into a world of spirits/monsters… and her parents are punished. Strangely enough someone who’s part of the “brass” helps her out in secrecy and asks her to get a job under the witch, who controlls the region. This is the only way she can save her family and return to the real world. She is accepted but given a new name… and is slowly being consumed by a spell that will make her forget about her former life. Either I missed it, or this movie surprisingly doesn’t have the “do not meddle with nature” lesson the Ghibli creations were famous for attached to it. Since the setting and plot is based on something that cannot be paralleled to the real world. Simply put, you merely have to watch it and enjoy (as you could do with all anime but anyway…) I think Princess Mononoke was still the better movie when you’re talking about supernatural stuff. But this deserves some credit. Again you will be amazed with the animation. I swear the way they animate human movement is fantastic. The soundtrack, once again, also is fantastic. And I’ve already mentioned the story and I’m sure it’s pretty interesting for most people. So there’s nothing left to say but to recommend you people to watch this movie. |
