[review] The Guyver (OVA)
2003.12.21 10:44 AM
I was able to watch the classic The Guyver. The GuyverStory of Sho, a student, who accidentally discovers a bio-suit. The same bio-suit happens to be called a “Guyver” unit and is sought after by a secret organization called Chronos. Thing is, only 3 units exist on earh and once activated, it fuses with the organism which activates it, and cannot be separated short of destroying it completely… meaning once it fuses with you, you’re stuck with it. The guyver unit was supposed to have been built by aliens… and these aliens are connected to the human race, how they are connected is for you to find out. Suffice to say that part of the “purpose” of Chronos’ existence has something to do with it. The story is interesting enough. Basically it shows how “damned” a fate Sho leads as a consequence for activating the Guyver unit. Chronos is all over his ass and his family, friends are all being manipulated or messed with one way or the other… bummer. The dissappointing thing about the OVA as that it doesn’t end well. Not because it’s a happy or tragic ending, but because it … didn’t end. This is doubly frustrating because of the fact that it’s a very old anime which up to now, has no indication of a sequel. It’s totally open ended which really sucks. But the whole story is pretty violent which makes up for it a little bit. The animation is pretty much old style, a bit better than Voltes V and the like, which really shows how long ago it has been around. But again considering its age and story, aside from the ending, I’d recommend people to watch this. |
