Just so I could post

Here’s a “daloy ng kamalayan” post just for the heck of it. Actually I wanted to post because I didn’t want my last post (about equality) to be the entry that stays in the main page for a long time.

First time visitors might read it and think I’m such an asshole when I’m really not hahahaha. Well ok, I’m a bit of an asshole – but you get my point.

Last sunday, Cris and I went to the Bookfair in the Wold Trade Center.

We went really early because it was a big venue, and I wanted her to have all the time she needed to go through everything that the fair had to offer.

We ended up only spending 2 hours in it. I guess she wasn’t compatible with these types of fairs. While discounted, all books can be found anywhere else1 – and we all know that books like that aren’t really the books worth going to fairs for – unless you’re planning to get a ton of them. Otherwise, just save on gas and get it at almost the same price from your regular bookstore.

I saw in Pia’s blog that the Crocodile Hunter guy is dead. I’m actually speechless. Not because I feel anything. I mean sure, it’s a tragic event for the people involved (wife, children, etc.) But really now, are we really surprised that the danger has finally caught up with him? If anything, he’s actually lucky to have lived this long – considering the dangers he constantly puts himself in.

I think the actual sad part was the way he died. He could’ve been killed in his more dangerous adventures – but instead, he was unwittingly stabbed in the chest by a Ray he didn’t see – and Rays attacking like that are said to be extremely rare cases.

All these factors, points to the conclusion that it really was his time.

I’m very pleased with the performance of my LCDs. Without a doubt, LCDs consume less power than CRTs. Less by a considerable margin.

For example: I used to have a 20″ CRT. I couldn’t connect it to the UPS along with the PC itself. Whenever I would disconnect the mains, the UPS can’t take the load of both components – and shuts down. I ended up putting the PC alone on the UPS.

Now I’ve got these two 19″ LCDs which are essentially as big as the CRT (or more) as far as screen size goes. I can afford to have both connected to the UPS along with the PC without incident.

    1. She tends to favor books that are not so mainstream (e.g. hard to find)

He actually did see the ray. He was swimming just slightly behind and above it. They were filming the whole thing and the videographer left the camera running (apprently under orders from Steve himself long ago to keep the tape running whatever happens) even when he was stabbed by the stingray barb. They say the footage ran up to the time that he pulled the barb from his chest (which pieerced his heart), afterwhich he died… It’s sad actually. I for one always thought he’d die in the jaws of a croc rather than a stingray barb. No more “Crikey!”. :(
