AFAIK, the 1.1.1 unlock puts the phone in a state where it’s running the 1.1.1 software, but using an OLD (1.0.2) baseband (which has been unlocked)
But as of the 11th, the iPhone dev team was already able to get the seccpack for 1.1.1 so I guess an “official unlock” (as ironic as that sounds) is just around the corner.
