TOPIC(S)
On Russia and Georgia

Don’t we just love the internet? How it can bring to light some things that mainstream [western] media would never have dreamt of doing. Sorry for the late commentary, was sitting on it just waiting for developments, but a couple of other related news items prompted me to post about it.

In case you didn’t know already, I thought it’d be important to reiterate this little factoid about the whole Russia vs. Georgia debacle: Russia is NOT the aggressor in this whole conflict. They’re actually the good guys in this case.

  1. There are 2 regions in Georgia that are in conflict over independence; the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic (which I’ll refer to as “Georgia”) and South Ossetia. The latter wanting full autonomy.
  2. This tension (and even a history armed conflict) has been going on since 1989
  3. On June 1992, Russian, Georgian and South Ossetian leaders sign an armistice agreeing to the creation of a tripartite peacekeeping force of soldiers from each entity - thus explaining why Russia is involved… as an arbiter.
  4. Fast forward to August 2008; Georgian forces attack South Ossetia (to re-take the region). Russia, I’m guessing from the agreement, was obligated to send military in.
  5. People get killed, all hell breaks loose - then western media say that Russian’s started the “war.”

Now, if you don’t believe me, and of course it’s impossible to say watch TV to find out (since Western media is obviously biased, then I invite you to watch this clip).

Notice that the “victims” there are making efforts to clarify that it was Georgians who were the aggressors - and they were thanking the russians. Since the US has declared in the media that Russia was the bad guy, they wouldn’t let them finish their sentences, claiming that they were out of time for a commercial break; this happened TWICE in the interview. Coincidence? I think not.

Now, why am I writing about it just now? I guess I’m just pissed off at the US for being such assholes with regards to this issue. They’re wrongly villifying a nation due to what can only be a country’s (the US) insecurity as a superpower. Russia has always been perceived as an antithesis to the “American way” - maybe with the same uncomfortable historical relationship as German Nazis had with the Jews.

As such, I was actually glad to read about this article. It’s like Russia saying “Fuck you America, we’re not taking any more of your manipulative crap, this isn’t your problem and if you meddle, you fuck with us and you better be ready.” I say good for them!

Normally it would be a scary thought; not sure if it’d be WW3 caliber, but it would be heavy shit if a US vs. Russia smack-down would come to pass. But this other article kinda strengthened the feeling that something was really fishy going on in the west.

I take the accusations by Putin with a grain of salt, Putin is an asshole and is most likely just trying to cover his ass by any means necessary; I could care less the story that comes out of his mouth.

But the fact of the matter is, given how the the west has blatantly spun the truth around and now this article implicating them… something is up. it doesn’t matter if it’s accurate or not; it’s obvious is that the US has some geo-political stake in the matter, just like it does in other parts of the world (Iraq anyone?), and really who doesn’t right? I’m sure Russia has it’s motives as well and the attack may have given them the excuse they were waiting for to act.

What does piss me off is that aside from meddling once again, is they’re clearly choosing the wrong side simply because it may benefit them more.

It’s just so frustrating to hear about these types of things.
